It’s Teachers’ Day, and how can we miss this golden opportunity of going down memory lane and getting all nostalgic about our childhood? From the teachers who we loved and respected, to the ones we were scared of, there are emotions that we simply cannot comprehend whenever we think about our childhood.
Over the years, Bollywood has rewarded us with some of the most iconic characters of Bollywood teachers. From Ms Braganza of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai to Virus of 3 Idiots, these teachers were funny, quirky, and sometimes even eccentric, but that didn’t stop us from adoring them. So, let our team at Wedding Affair take you through some of our favourite teachers from Bollywood.
Ms. Braganza in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai
Starting with the most dramatic of them all, Ms.Braganza, the absolute diva who while slaying as a teacher never compromised with her styling game. Her no-nonsense attitude and strong opinions on the liberty of fashion for her female students were like a breath of fresh air to see on the big screen in the era of Doordarshan. She effortlessly taught us to never compromise our personal beliefs for the sake of fitting into society while twirling in one of her brightly coloured short skirts!
Chandni Chopra in Main Hoon Na
No wonder Ram, the character of Shah Rukh Khan, couldn’t stop himself from admiring Chandni without singing whenever she walked by him. We all felt embarrassed on his behalf but can we blame him? If Chandni Chopra existed in real life, we too wouldn’t be able to stop ourselves from adoring the floor she walked on. It is safe to say that many of us were glued to our TV screens in our childhood just to admire the confidence and grace this Bollywood teacher carried herself with in the whole movie.

Virus in 3 Idiots
While talking about iconic Bollywood teachers, the classic character of Virus from 3 Idiots can never be missed. We all prayed to never come across a teacher like him or else our life would be doomed forever.
But as we grew up, we all realised that this fictional character on screen, Virus was just preparing us for all the hardships our reality will serve us in the future. He is one of those characters that you can hate, love, and feel pity for at times, but not to think about him would be an impossible task for you. With this character, Boman Irani has managed to leave his mark with his art of immaculate acting.
Raj Aryan Malhotra in Mohabbatein
A chance to get a teacher like Raj? Hell yes! This character of Shahrukh Khan as a Bollywood teacher is one of those characters that we wished we could have had as a friend while we were growing up. Breaking the stigma around rigid societal rules regarding human relationships, this character taught us the value and importance of love, friendships, and relationships. And to not forget, it is always a treat and an absolute delight to watch Shahrukh Khan on the big screen.
Debraj Sahai in Black
One of the most moving performances from Amit Ji was his character of Debraj Sahai in the movie Black. Debraj Sahai is a man who doesn’t mince his words or actions, believes in miracles, and encourages eccentricities. From being someone we hate – an alcoholic, eccentric man who was harsh on his student, Michelle, played by Rani Mukerji – he becomes someone we sympathise with as he struggles with Alzheimer’s. This movie stands as a testament to the beautiful innocence of the relationship between a teacher and a student.
