The long-standing wedding traditions in India render a gala time to the otherwise elaborate and tedious ceremonies.   1. Maharashtrian Wedding

In a typical Maharashtrian wedding, the bride and groom are not allowed to see each other until the time of tying the mangalsutra. A silk shawl called Antrapat is used to keep the bride and groom from seeing each other. It is only at the time when the groom is supposed to tie the mangalsutra that the Antrapat is removed.

2. Bihari Wedding

In a typical Bihari wedding, as soon as the bride arrives at her new home, she is made to balance a number of earthen pots on her head. Usually, it is the bride’s mother-in-law who places the pots on her head. The bride is supposed to take blessings of the elders of the family while simultaneously balancing the pots.

3. Sindhi Wedding

Sindhis have their own distinct way of making merry at wedding ceremonies. During a Sindhi wedding, an uber fun ritual called Sainth is performed. During the ritual, seven married women put oil over the groom’s head. Towards the end of this ritual, the groom’s relatives tear off his clothes.

4. Telugu Wedding

In a traditional Telugu wedding, after the exchange of garland between the bride and the groom a ritual called Talambralu takes place. During the rituals, the relatives shower turmeric coated rice and petals of flowers over the bride and the groom.

5. Gujarati Wedding

During a ritual called Madhuparka, the bride’s parents wash groom’s feet with milk and honey while welcoming him to their abode. In some families, the groom is made to drink this.
