The 80th Golden Globe Awards exhibited a spectacular opening with an inspiring Hollywood guestlist gracing the red carpet with their magnetic fashion — Black shade being the sweeping theme for the occasion. Sparkling silhouettes, sequins, and pastels added extra pomp to the star-studded event.
The award ceremony came alive at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on January 10th, with 27 award categories —hosted by comedian Jerrod Carmichael. Among celebrities that attended this golden affair are some A-listers like Brad Pitt, Rihanna, Selena Gomez, Eddie Murphy, and Margot Robbie.
Some of our favourite looks worn by the stars this year are Michelle Yeoh, who bagged the Best Film Actress (Musical/Comedy) award for her role in the sci-fi comedy film ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’, wore a ruffled sequin off-shoulder Armani Privé gown looking like a sparkly midnight galaxy. Actor Margot Robbie looked radiant as she channelled Barbie’s look with a pale pink striped gown, an ensemble custom-made by Chanel. ‘Wednesday’ star Jenna Ortega looked divine as she flashed off her dashboard abs in a neutral brown Gucci gown — treat to eyes to watch her in an outfit something other than black. The Lavender Vera Wang maternity gown worn by Kaley Cuoco looked chic and fresh.
The song Naatu Naatu from SS.Rajamouli’s directorial film ‘RRR’ received a Golden Globe for Best Original Song, gaining a monumental win as one of the first Asian songs in the category. The Best Original Score went to Justin Hurwitz for ‘Babylon’.
Some memorable on-stage moments included Eddie Murphy being feted with the Cecil B DeMille award. In his acceptance speech, he said, “pay your taxes, mind your business, and keep Will Smith’s Wife’s name out of your f****ng mouth, referring to the incident with Chris Rock at last year’s Oscar ceremony. ‘The White Lotus’ star Jennifer Coolidge delighted the audience with her uncanny humour; on the other hand, Brad Pitt won the Most Popular award. ‘The Fabelmans’ and ‘The Banshees of Inisherin’ took home the most Golden Globes.
