Acer makes some of the best inexpensive laptops you’ll find. But also it delves into several interesting premium models that are more about design than being a good bargain. With the name Porsche Design stamped on the lid of this one, here is another premium offering from Acer that is making rounds on social media. Built from carbon fiber and magnesium with diamond-cut edges, the Acer Book RS certainly makes an impression and is something different — its ultra-luxurious design and modish looks!

Overview

In the competitive world of top-notch ultraportables, the Porsche Design Acer Book RS ($1,399.99) brings a well-known name to the party—technically, a second one, apart from Acer’s. Porsche’s design arm (which works on more than just automotive projects) collaborated with the big PC maker to create this lightweight ultraportable with a carbon-fibre lid inlay. That’s the standout look-and-feel feature of this laptop, but everything else is well-executed, too, including long battery life and a robust selection of ports. You may yearn for 16GB of memory at this price, but a 512GB SSD is also nice, and performance was no slouch in our testing.Acer

What’s on the outside?

The laptop’s carbon fibre lid comprises a Nanoimprint Lithography (NIL) matte process. And it is capped up top by silver aircraft-grade aluminium featuring the Porsche Design logo. Here, the texture lends a futuristic look and draws the eye to the sides of the laptop. The sides also get chiselling of an angular aesthetic exemplified by the hinge that hangs out the back. The chassis doesn’t have much of an angle if any. Oddly enough, the blocky look makes it stand out rather than coming across as overly simplistic. Open the lid and you’ll find a standard island keyboard featuring black keys and white lettering. This comes with a Porsche Design logo above the keyboard the only standout design feature.

What’s inside?

The laptop itself boasts a 14-inch, full HD IPS touchscreen. This comes with the richest colour and tones courtesy of a 340 nits display. While under the hood the Acer Book RS carries an 11th Generation Intel® Core™ processor and Intel® Iris® Xe Graphic verified by the Intel® Evo™ Platform to ensure the highest level of performance at all times. This setup gets power from a 56Wh battery. It ensures up to 17 hours of continuous use. Also, fast-charging capabilities provide four hours of use after just 30 minutes of charge time.
