Starring stalwarts like Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ completed 43 glorious years today and till date it remains one of the most iconic films of our Indian film industry. Remembering the good old days, Bachchan shared a throwback picture of himself from the sets of the film when his kids visited him. Taking to his social media handle, Amitabh Bachchan shared an adorable throwback picture of himself where he is seen sharing the frame with his adorable kids: Shweta and Abhishek Bachchan when they came in to meet the megastar on the sets of the blockbuster film.

In the picture, the actor is seen kissing his lovely daughter while Abhishek looks cute as a button in his arms. Captioning the lovely picture, he wrote, ‘Shweta and Abhishek visit me on the set of Amar Akbar Anthony. Shooting the song ‘My name is Anthony Gonsalves’, at Holiday Inn Ball Room. This pic on the beach front. 43 YEARS of AAA , today .. !!! When Man ji came to narrate the idea to me .. and told me the Title .. I thought he had lost it ..”

He continued, “At a time in the 70’s when film titles revolved around Behen Bhabhi and Beti, this one was so out of place. But it is reported that it did a business of 7.25 cr at that time. Inflation adjusted it crosses collections of Baahubali 2, say the sayers who do calculations. But fact is that it did massive business .. did 25 weeks in 25 theatres in Mumbai alone .. or so they say .. Doesn’t happen now … gone are those days !!’

The Baahubali Connection

Amitabh Bachchan also added that keeping aside the inflation, ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ is a bigger box-office blockbuster than SS Rajamouli’s ‘Baahubali 2: The Conclusion’. The latter starred Prabhas, Anushka Shetty, Tamanna Bhatia and Rana Daggubati in lead roles.

General Trivia

Bachchan, who was cast as Anthony. Co-starred in the three-hero movie with Vinod Khanna (Amar) and Rishi Kapoor (Akbar). The film was released on May 27, 1977. Directed by Manmohan Desai. The ensemble cast of ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ also included Neetu Singh (who got married to Rishi Kapoor in 1980), Parveen Babi, Shabana Azmi. Along with Nirupa Roy, Pran, Jeevan, Yusuf Khan, Amjad Khan and Ranjeet.

Future Projects

Amitabh Bachchan will next be seen in ‘Gulabo Sitabo’. The film is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language, comedy-drama outing directed by Shoojit Sircar. Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar. It is written by Juhi Chaturvedi. Set in Lucknow, it stars Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushmann Khurrana as two warring men. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film will not be released theatrically. And will stream worldwide on Amazon Prime Video from 12 June, 2020.
