Wedding is the most special day for a bride and groom. They’re floating in excitement, anticipation and the air smells a lot like love and romance. But it’s a long 4 to 5 hours ahead, with heavy jewellery, makeup and loads of ceremonies in between. The couple is going to be photographed throughout the wedding and every bride wants to look perfect in all her wedding photos. Mishaps like dupatta coming undone, lipstick wearing off, has a possibility but they’re avoidable. All it requires is a bit of planning, a few basic accessories and voilà- you’re ready for your big day!

Starting with the biggest, use a double tape on your bridal blouse to ensure it stays intact. You should always opt for a good quality one- preferably a body tape- so that you don’t end up getting rashes from the tape.

Another one is to use a band aid with the net dupatta or sarees for extra support- so that it doesn’t tear off with the slightest tug. Also, the dupatta will stay in place because the band aid holds tightly onto its fabric.

If you’re someone who is always troubled by the dupatta sliding off your head or falling off from one side, secure it with hair extension clips. Those things are a blessing! You just need to plan ahead and get the extension clips stitched on to the edge of the dupatta and finally ask your stylist to place it accurately on your hair. Try going for at least 5 extension clips for a firmer support.

Eyelash glue is more useful than you think. These tubes of adhesive can help you to hold your bindi in position that can otherwise slide off due to sweating.

When it comes to your makeup, lipstick to be precise, keep the exact shade that the makeup artist has used in your purse or kit, so you can reapply whenever it starts to wear off. In fact, keep an emergency kit with the essentials for touch-up like mascara, eyelash glue, bobby pins, wet wipes, amongst other things.

As for your lashes, don’t forget to coat them with a decent layer of Vaseline before applying mascara to avoid dry and irritated eyelashes towards the end.

Talking about irritation, heavy earrings can be a pain when endured for long hours. To prevent that excruciating pain, apply a numbing cream on your earlobes.

With maang tikka being in fashion, we can’t miss out on a handy hack for this jewellery. Use your eyelash glue to stick the maang tikka to your forehead, so that you can dance care-free without the fear of the jewellery coming out.

Also, if you’re going for an open hairdo ensure that you use a good quality hair spray, so your hairstyle doesn’t go haywire with the first blow of the wind.

All the brides flush at the sign of delicate and elegant stilettos that remind them of Cinderella’s glass slippers. What we often forget is that the bride will have to wear that heel length on top of a heavy bridal lehenga, along with jewellery and two huge dupattas. To avoid going through the torture of these heels, wear an insole and tape your toes. This hack works like a charm, every time.

You can even use silicon pads for your ankle and numbing cream to reduce that pain. Also, wear your wedding heels for a few hours before the wedding day to ensure they’re comfortable.

While getting your makeup done, as much as it is tempting, don’t wear your lehenga until the last minute to prevent yourself from unnecessary exhaustion. Instead, sit in a robe for that duration and put on your bridal lehenga after getting ready.

A few days before your wedding, make a portfolio of all the wedding poses you’d like to try solo or with your partner. It always comes in handy when you’ve a template of poses, as you might miss out on a few good ones amidst the chaos of wedding preparations.
