It was a night of substantial validation for designer Daniel Lee as he won big at the British Fashion Awards 2019 at the Royal Albert Hall, London on December 2. One of the biggest nights celebrating the spirit of fashion and recognizing creativity and innovation in the year gone by, the gala also acts as the primary fundraiser for the British Fashion Council’s Education Foundation since 1989. This year saw the amalgamation of fashion, beauty and jewellery trends exhibited by celebrities like Rihanna, Julia Roberts, Naomi Campbell, Rita Ora and Emilia Clarke on the red carpet, among others.

As usual, Rihanna buzzed up the fashion enthusiasts with her style on the red carpet first and then with her after-party look later. The polar opposite looks featured a mint-green, satin mini dress with jewelled back on the red carpet and head-to-toe black leather look with sheer tights, coat, and purse for the after-party. She also won the Urban Luxe honour for her exceptional feat with her label FENTY becoming a part of LVMH.

Daniel Lee had an exceptional year with his brand (Bottega Veneta) bagging the ‘Brand of the Year’, and the designer taking home ‘Accessories Designer of the Year’, ‘Womenswear Designer of the Year’, and ‘Designer of the Year’.

Naomi Campbell got emotional as she received the ‘Fashion Icon of the Year’. She said, “I learned today that I’m the first woman of colour to receive this award.” The 49-year-old model donned a shimmering Alexander McQueen gown made out of sheer fabric. A special tribute was given to the late legend Karl Lagerfeld. Sarah Burton, the creative director of Alexander McQueen, also received the ‘Industry Trailblazer of the Year’ honour.
