This 15th August, India will celebrate 75 years of its Independence. The country as a whole will reminisce about the past years and how far we have come. It is a day to be proud, it is about flying kites and eating sweets, it is about watching flag hosting ceremony with your family on TV.

So, this independence day celebrate the nation and your patriotic spirit by watching these movies-

    • Swades: We, the People

This 2004 Hindi drama film, starring Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi and Kishori Ballal in lead roles, is the story about an Indian scientist living in America, who return back to the country and rediscovers his love for the same. The movie directed by Ashutosh Gowariker will pull your heartstrings and will make you fall in love with your motherland all over again. The songs of the movie are also very iconic and heartfelt.

This 2006 Hindi drama, written, produced and directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, is one of the most iconic Indian patriotic movies of all time. The film features an ensemble cast consisting of Aamir Khan, Siddharth, R. Madhavan, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and British actress Alice Patten. The film is the story of five men who decide to fight corruption in the country. It is narrated from the lens of a British film student who draws the parallels between these men and the story of freedom fighters from the Indian Revolutionary movement. The movie will make you laugh and cry and will leave you with a sense of wonderment.

It is another iconic movie starring Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role. This 2007 sports film directed by Shimit Amin, produced by Aditya Chopra and written by Jaideep Sahni embodies the feelings of women empowerment and sportsmanship in one package. This story is about the Indian Women’s hockey team and their coach and follows their journey in winning the World Cup. This beautiful movie is one of its kind and will make you feel proud of all the Indian sportsmen and women and their struggles.

This 2018, Hindi-language spy action thriller film starring Alia Bhatt and Vickey Kaushal is all about women empowerment and the strength and contribution of female spies in keeping the country safe. The movie is based on the Harinder Sikka’s 2008 novel Calling Sehmat, a true account of an Indian Research and Analysis Wing (RAW). Directed by Meghna Gulzar the movie was praised by audience and critics alike.

    • Sardar Udham

This 2021movie is a biographical historical drama was directed by Shoojit Sircar. The screenplay was written by Shubhendu Bhattacharya and Ritesh Shah. The movie stars Vickey Kaushal and is based on the life of the freedom fighter Udham Singh. The story follows his story and how he assassinated Michael O’Dwyer in London to avenge the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. The movie is heartbreaking and quite realistic which will make you remember and honour the sacrifices of the heroes responsible for the past 75 years of freedom.
