Corona affects Bihar wedding; the groom dies, 100 infected

More than 100 people who attended a wedding ceremony in Bihar on June 15 have tested positive for the coronavirus, The Indian Express reported on Tuesday. The groom also died two days later but could not be tested for Covid-19 as his family had already cremated him. (Source: The Scroll)

It took the administration a lot of time and effort to detect and break the chain. A total of 369 persons took part in the wedding event, said the officials. A health department official said 79 persons, attending the wedding event together on Monday met with corona-infection. Other 24 persons found with infection by contact tracing. A resident of the Dehpali village in Paliganj, nearly 50 km from Patna, worked as a software engineer in Gurugram. He returned to his village on May 12 to tie the knot. Two days after the marriage on June 15, the bridegroom died.

After the administration came to know about this, the officials started tracing the people  in Bihar who attended the ceremony.

On Monday, of the total 369 attendees, 79 found corona-infected by tracing the corona chain. And, as many as 24 others got an infection, earlier in Bihar.

Paliganj Sub-Divisional Health Officer Prajit Kumar said some patients sent to Bemeti, Phulwarisharif and most sent to Bihta. Chiranjeev Pandey, Block Development Officer, Paliganj, said on Tuesday that many mohallas have seals now. (Source: IANS)

“Even though he was feeling unwell by June 14 and wanted to defer the wedding, family heads from both sides advised against it. They cited huge financial losses if the arrangements and cancellations,” an unidentified relative of the groom told The Indian Express. By the day of the wedding, the groom was running at a high temperature. On June 17, his condition worsened and the family took him to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in Patna.
