The hot and humid weather wreaks havoc on our skin and hair. High humidity levels lead to excess oil production which in turn paves way for clogged pores. During the cold months to come, you must take extra care of yourself to beat the dryness and winter woes. Here are some quick and easy DIYs using essential oils that will help you sail through the hot, sweltering and cold months all year around.

Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is well-known for its powerful antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which makes it one of the best treatments that help in healing skin related problems and infections.

How to use it: Mix one to two drops of tea tree oil with your face wash to prepare your homemade anti-acne face wash. Gently massage this mixture on your face and wash it off. This mixture will cleanse the pores and keep blackheads and acne at bay. You can also add a couple of drops to your bath to prevent body acne.

Mix five to six drops of tea tree oil with coconut oil. This mixture can treat a dry and flaky scalp along with reducing dandruff. Use this mixture to massage your scalp once or twice a week. Pro tip: You can also add a few drops of tea tree oil in your shampoo to amplify its cleansing effect.

Lavender

This multifaceted essential oil can be used as a muscle relaxant, a pain reliever and an antibacterial for wounds and burns. Hence, lavender oil is a popular choice for aromatherapy. It can also be used as a topical treatment for dry skin, eczema and insect bites. Lavender oil is one of the main ingredients in perfumes and other aromatic concoctions. It can be used after a long and tiring day to relax by employing it in aromatherapy.

How to use it: Mixing a few drops of the oil with your moisturiser will bring in anti-ageing benefits. The mixture has anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties that can fight the bacteria that cause acne and inflammation along with reducing the appearance of scars. Lavender oil works well on sensitive skin as well.

Lavender oil is an effective treatment for hair fall and is also known to prevent louse. Mix a few drops of the essential oil with your regular hair oil to get rid of these hair problems. You can also add two to three drops of the oil to your little one’s bath to soothe any skin irritation.

Grapeseed Oil

Grapeseed oil is the best option for those who don’t like the greasiness that comes from an oil. This oil moisturises your skin and hair without making it creamy and shiny. The Vitamin E content in grapeseed oil is beneficial for the health of both the skin and hair.

How to use it: Apply a drop or two of this oil in circular motions in your under-eye area before you hit the sack. This will help in reducing dark circles. You can also take four to five drops of the oil and massage it onto your face at night and wake up to a glowing and silky soft skin.

To smooth out rough and unruly ends, apply a few drops of the oil on the dry ends of your hair. This will leave your hair smooth without making it greasy.

Rosemary Oil

Rosemary essential oil is widely used in shampoos and lotions. This oil promotes hair growth, slows down premature hair loss and greying of the hair. It also moisturises and tones the skin.

How to use it: If you have dry skin, mix a few drops of rosemary oil with coconut oil and massage it into your skin before you sleep. This will leave your skin with an even tone and glow.

Mix a few drops of rosemary oil with olive oil to darken and strengthen your hair. Rosemary oil also helps to get rid of a dry and flaky scalp. Regular massaging of the scalp with rosemary oil nourishes the scalp and removes dandruff.
