Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is the first electrified car from Maserati. And, more importantly, it opens a new chapter as the marque pursues more electric cars. The Italian brand is making a rather large song and dance about this being “the link between a past of internal combustion engines and an electric future”. But essentially it’s a slightly refreshed Ghibli with an Alfa Romeo engine and a 48-volt mild-hybrid system.
There is plenty of resilience as Maserati accepts hybrids as the foreseeable balance between performance and sustainability. They back it up saying that their new 2.0l turbocharged petrol engine with the 48V electric boost performs comparably to a traditional Maserati V6, but has up to 25 per cent reduction in CO2 emissions compared to the V6 petrol. The Details
On the inside, there’s a new generation of Maserati’s infotainment system with a 10-inch screen and (engage marketing voice…) *enhanced connectivity*. Nice. Plus, there are also two trim levels – GranSport and GranLusso – one of which has sporting pretensions whilst the other favours luxury. (Source: TopGear)
With the new powertrain comes to some styling tweaks, too. Most of them are minor, but the rear end gets revamping in taillights to mimic the Alfieri concept from years ago. It’s a much-needed freshening for the sedan. Otherwise, eagle-eyed onlookers will barely notice an updated front grille with new slats and plenty of blue highlights. Maserati chose blue to represent its electrified and totally electric cars moving forward, and the colour makes its way to the air ducts, brake callipers and part of the emblem itself.
