On Day 3 of ICW 2024, renowned designers Siddharth Tytler and Kunal Rawal put forth shows filled with glamour and grandeur in eminent designs worn by Malaika Arora, Rahul Khanna and Aditya Roy Kapur.
FDCI’s Hyundai India Couture Week 2024 began with a bang on July 24, 2024. With successful and innovative presentations by designers like Abu Sandeep, Isha Jajodia, and Suneet Varma on the first two days, fashion and wedding enthusiasts were waiting with bated breaths to see the collections by Siddharth Tytler and Kunal Rawal. The third day of FDCI ICW 2024 didn’t disappoint us, held at the Taj Palace Hotel with Sidharth Tytler’s showcase being held at the Shah Jehan Hall and Kunal Rawal’s at the Durbar Hall at the same venue.
The Collections
The new-age fashion designer Siddharth Tytler brought Roman opulence to the Indian runway with his couture collection ‘Caligula’s Feast’, inspired by the emperor himself. Epitomising indulgence and opulence with a sensual allure the outfits featured a variety of jewel tones like ruby, emerald, royal blue accented with gold and gunmetal. Additionally, the collection showcased crystals, sequins, rhinestones, applique and fur creating a sense of grandeur. Layering, drapery, capes and armours created dramatic effects on the lehengas, bandhgalas, sherwanis, kurtas, sarees, anarkalis, gowns, dresses and corsets, paving a new way for Tytler’s couture. “For me, each piece in an ensemble is an individual outfit. Our jackets had co-ord sets inside, and our gowns were bodysuits with skirts, so you could break them up and wear them separately as well. It is all about mixing and feeling what your style really is,” elaborated the designer on his couture collection.
Kunal Rawal chose to combine rich Indian traditions with modern luxury in his collection ‘Sehra’, at ICW 2024. Reflecting on the elements of positive omens and traditions unique to Indian weddings, the line featured weaves from across the country. The designer gave the chic edge to his cropped jackets, bundis, deconstructed sherwanis, bandhgalas, patialas, pleated pants, and kadhi dhotis, with the symbiosis of silk, brocades, bandhani, dhup chao threadwork and bold micro motifs that are the androgynous ethos of the brand. Rawal dived deep into the inspiration behind his collection in an interview with ELLE, explaining, “This couture story is deeply inspired by the heritage of craftsmanship that we, as Indian designers, are fortunate to inherit. Sehra reflects the positivity of centuries-old rituals and traditions that make Indian weddings truly unique, reimagining these elements within our signature aesthetic.”

The Showstoppers
The Bollywood fashionista Malaika Arora and the charming gentleman Rahul Khanna turned showstoppers for Sidharth Tytler’s collection at ICW 2024. The actress stunned in black glittering embroidered lehenga paired with an embellished, deep-neck, armor-esque blouse with a three-dimensional layer on the bust. On the other hand, Khanna’s ensemble was kept simple in a zipped bandhgala with white embroidery. “I loved it, I felt like a goddess. It was stunning, very sexy. But having said that, you feel like a fierce goddess. It was a beautiful collection,” said the actress in her outfit.
For Rawal’s show, the designer chose the ever-charming and elegant actor Aditya Roy Kapur as the showstopper. Clad in a navy blue sherwani featuring patola-inspired motifs embellished with tones of gunmetal and a black patiala, the actor looked dapper and deserved all the applause garnered by his magnetic walk. Additionally, celebrity stylist Anaita Shroff Adjania also walked the ramp for the ace designer. Considering the love the film industry has for the designer, his show was attended by friends from the industry like Arjun Kapoor, Bhumi Pednekar and Malaika Arora.
