The 12th edition of India Couture Week commenced in pomp and show at Taj Hotel Palace in Delhi on July 22, 2019. Organised by the Fashion Design Council of India, day 1 of the renowned couture week saw ace designer Amit Aggarwal showcasing his collection ‘Lumen’. The stunning diva Kiara Advani sashayed the ramp in a red ensemble as his showstopper. The collection ‘Lumen’ draws its inspiration from organic structures of the human body that exchanges invisible energy through an overlay of framework, fluidity and form. According to the designer, Lumen is a celebration of a unique light that illuminates us and makes us the individuals that we are. Â
The collection displayed a blend of opaque colours with its metallic tone and its iridescent hue transforming each shade into a superfluous flow of energy. A vibrant jewel colour palette of emerald, petrol, purple and plum moved into neutrals of gold, blush, silver and ivory with an eclectic mix of neon tones. The transparency, opacity and reflection of these colours revealed the reaction and the flow of light through every hue in the collection.Â
While the women’s wear collection featured traditional Indian silhouettes, the menswear collection incorporated sharply tailored ensembles in classic styles with a touch of layering. The drapes for men were elevated by layering and colour blocking through textiles while highlighting it with intricate craftsmanship. The designer dedicated the collection to evolved men who have started accepting fresh and innovative forms of clothing. Ceremonial Indian silhouettes livened up with modern three-dimensional hand embroidery fabricated in industrial materials, as well as Jacquards, silks and handwoven geometric textiles. Sheer drapes and layers enhanced the raiments for women by creating an illusion of colour through a play of light.Â
