The famous Theatre Du Chatelet in Paris, on January 22, lit up with some of the most iconic runway stars as the original ‘bad boy’ of French Couture, Jean Paul Gaultier, bid goodbye to the runway. This iconic show marked the end of Jean-Paul’s reign as the King of Haute Couture. After 50 years in the fashion industry, the renowned designer made his final bow. Iconic stars who strut the runway for the final bow by Gaultier included names like the Hadid sisters — Gigi and Bella, the rare appearance of Karlie Kloss on the runway, Dita Von Teese, Paris Jackson, Irina Shayk, Winnie Harlow and Joan Smalls among others. The surprise guest singer Boy George entertained those gathered for the show.
Former French First Lady and ex-supermodel Carla Bruni also became one of the major star attractions of the show. “Life is always the end of an era,” Bruni told Associated Press. “Jean Paul can never really stop.” The designer, popular for his tongue-in-cheek designs, began the show with a funeral scene as six male models carried a black coffin onto the runway. He ended it, after 90 minutes of new creations, jumping and laughing on stage as everyone danced to Boy George’s singing his hit ‘Church of the Poison Mind.’
Gigi and Bella Hadid walked the runway in a sexy, skin-baring take on Gaultier’s signature sailor stripes and a sheer lace gown, respectively. Kloss was a part of Gaultier’s grand finale in a white lace jumpsuit and sailor cap.
Irina Shayk and Dita Von Teese both modelled blush-toned satin lingerie looks. And Winnie Harlow turned up in arguably the most revealing ensemble of them all — a see-through mesh catsuit with strategically-placed embroidered leaves, topped with a camouflage-print cape.
