Making his acting debut, Kirti Azad, a politician and former Indian cricket player, is going to set foot in the Bollywood industry starring in his own biopic, “Kirket: Bihar Ke Apmaan Se Samman Tak”. The film which is set to hit the silver screens on October 18 is the story of Bihar cricket and how it was deprived of playing in the national team after independence. Kirti Azad in real life played for the Indian cricket team in the 1983 World Cup Finals. He himself is from Bihar but played from Delhi.
After Independence, 3 states were divided to form new states. Out of that, Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Board got recognized but the Bihar Cricket Board didn’t due to lack of infrastructure. The 3rd most populous state of India wasn’t given the status. Kirti Azad struggled for 12 to 14 years to get that status.
The film is about their struggle, how they fought, went to the board, how the team was formed, the way they were insulted and how the players were called but weren’t allowed to play.
Starring as the lead actress is the emcee Sonam C Chhabra who is a very well-known face in the event management industry. Although she is not new to the camera, Sonam is making her entry into the film industry alongside Kirti Azad. The story in the film is narrated through her eyes while she will be seen playing the role of a journalist.
The film revolves around and deals with the issue of division of Bihar Cricket Board and team’s recognition of Ranji team being cancelled. The trailer looks very promising, full of game, controversy, politics and a hint of romance to add spice. Kirti Azad took to Twitter to share the trailer of the movie.
