No matter how much we all love rains, the increased levels of humidity during the monsoon makes it difficult to manage your hair. Problems such as frizzy hair, dandruff and hairfall become more common as well. But, don’t let the rains get to your hair. The primary ingredient to protect your tresses lies in a simple routine that will help you sail through the rain. The monsoon tends to make your hair limp, lustreless, heavy and frizzy, owing to high levels of humidity in the air. Wedding Affair brings to you some handy hacks to help you out this monsoon.

Shampoo, Shampoo Baby!

There is no escape to getting wet in the rain, given that we are always on the move. Shampoo your hair regularly to remove any residue or particles from your scalp left behind by rain water. The essential tip here is to regularly cleanse and purify your hair, depending on its type. One of the useful and straightforward hair care tips is to keep your scalp dry during monsoon. Remember that rainwater is dirty and acidic (has a pH of about 5.6) which is very bad for your hair. Use a soft microfiber towel that absorbs water rapidly and reduces friction between the hair and the towel, consequently reducing hair fall.

Apply Coconut Oil

Applying coconut oil 15 minutes before you shampoo helps in preconditioning of your hair. A pre-shampoo treatment with coconut oil makes hair greasy and lessens the water your hair soaks up during washing. It also deals with the scalp problems. Conditioning your hair by applying a masque is mandatory as it neutralises frizziness and smoothens out the hair. Ensure that the conditioner is applied only on the mid-length and ends. Only use a minimum amount though. This will keep your hair smooth, shiny and frizz-free.

Get A Hair Cut

One of the simple tips to stop hair breakage during this season is to keep your hair short. This will reduce your hair fall problems by a lot since you won’t be exerting your roots by pulling down on longer hair. Short hair also reduces the hassle of maintaining it. Thus, cut your hair during monsoons to keep your hair healthy, safe, and glossy even during the rains. With proper hair care, you can enjoy the rain even when they are wet. The shorter the hair the easier it is to comb through them and maintain it’s quality.

Tie Up Your Hair

Tie your hair up to trap in moisture and prevent frizz. Constant drenching in the monsoon and high levels of humidity spell bad news for your mane. There is a possibility that you might fall prey to a number of scalp problems and bad hair days. Therefore, it is best to tie your hair in loose ponytails and buns. Protective hairstyles are a must during this time. Also, do not comb your wet hair immediately. Choose the right comb (wide-tooth), so it can easily detangle your hair. Make sure the teeth of the comb have enough space in between so that the hair does not break while combing. Also, sharing of combs must be avoided to prevent fungal infections.

Avoid Heat

Experimenting with hot styling tools can have negative effects on your hair.  Ensure that you do not get these styling treatment every frequently. It is better to avoid all kinds of cosmetics like gels and styling crèmes on your hair, in the long run, they damage the hair. During head baths, ensure that extreme water temperature is not used for head baths as it dries away the scalp leading to damage o the hair.
