Must-Watch Bollywood Films Of 2019

December has started, 2019 is ending and we are all in a throwback mode already. It was a year of real-life dramas taking over the big screen with directors taking inspiration from true events and people. With the year ending with blockbuster movies like Pati, Patni Aur Woh and Mardaani 2, here is a list of Bollywood movies that everyone should watch before the year ends and you gear up for the new year. 

1. Gully Boy 

The Hindi musical drama is inspired from the lives of two Mumbai based rappers, Naezy and Divine. Gully Boy traces the journey of Murad, an aspiring rapper from the slums of Dharavi, how his surroundings influenced his journey as he rose to fame. 

2. Kesari 

Kesari is a true story based on the historic Battle Of Saragarhi which took place in 1897 where 21 Sikhs bravely fought with an army of 10,000 Afghan soldiers.  

3. Uri: The Surgical Strike 

The directorial debut of Aditya Dhar, Uri: The Surgical Strike is a military action film based on the real-life event of Uri attack. Four militants entered the brigade headquarters in Uri, Jammu and Kashmir killing 19 unarmed, sleeping, Indian soldiers. The film shows the surgical strike conducted afterwards in retaliation to the attack. 

4. Article 15 

We are living in the 21st century and in a time where we talk about doing away with the caste system, there are still parts of India that cling to this age-old practice. Article 15 is a hard-hitting film on the caste system; 2 girls belonging to the lower caste are raped and killed for asking an increase in their daily wage by Rs 2 only. 

5. Batla House 

The film is inspired by the encounter operation in Batla House which took place in Delhi in 2008 and the controversies that surrounded the aftermath of the event. 

6. Super 30 

Education is the backbone of a thriving economy and everyone is entitled to it. Anand Kumar is a genius but a poverty-stricken student. After innumerable hurdles come his way, he opens a tuition centre where he teaches 30 poor students for free for the entrance exams. 

7. Mission Mangal 

Witness the journey of Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) scientist as they successfully launch the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM). You are sure to remain on the edge of your seat throughout the movie. 

8. Badla 

Tapsee Pannu is her finest in Badla. The film is a crime-thriller with unexpected twists and turns. The film will keep you on your toes and keep you guessing until the very last minute of the film. The suspense will certainly blow your mind.

9. Saand Ki Aankh 

The film is based on the lives of real-life shooters, Chandro and Prakashi Tomar, who at the age of 60 discover their talent of shooting. Popular with the name, Shooter Dadi, follow their journey as they fight and break the gender stereotypes of the society and go on to play for India. 

10. Bala 

Society set beauty norms are going to haunt us and Bala is proof of that. A man balding prematurely faces problems in every sphere of life. Watch this film to see how he deals with the societal pressure and lack of confidence that follows.
