The National Film Awards is the most prominent film award ceremonies in India every year. A national panel appointed by the government selects the winning entry, and the award ceremony is held in New Delhi, where the President of India presents the awards.

The 66th National Films Awards were held in the capital on December 23, 2019. This year’s Best Actor award recipients Ayushmann Khurrana and Vicky Kaushal along with Akshay Kumar attended the ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi. The awards were presented by Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu.

Bollywood’s Khiladi Kumar, Akshay Kumar was awarded for the Best Film on social issues for his film ‘Padman’ which showed the creation of a machine that can make affordable sanitary pads and create awareness among the citizens.

While Vicky Kaushal and Ayushmann Khurrana received the award for their outstanding performances in ‘Uri: The Surgical Strike’ and ‘AndhaDhun’ respectively. Ayushmann took to his Instagram account and thanked everyone for his special win. 

Priyanka Chopra Jonas’ film ‘Paani’ won Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation award. The Indian Desi girl took to her Twitter account and expressed her happiness regarding the same. Paani is Priyanka’s second venture in the Marathi industry after ‘Ventilator’. ‘Ventilator’ won three National Awards – National Film Award for Best Direction, National Film Award for Best Editing, National Film Award for Best Audiography.

The prestigious awards were hosted by Divya Dutta and Sonali Kulkarni. Last year, Divya was the recipient of the Best Supporting Actress for the film “Irada”. Amitabh Bachchan was honoured with Dada Saheb Phalke award this year, but he couldn’t attend the ceremony due to his poor health. The actor took to social media to express his gratitude for the wishes he had received for his health.
