The. Night. Finally. Happened. Yes, the much-awaited event of the year finally took place on Sunday, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Los Angeles and we were feeling way more than ecstatic about it. With magnificent movies and actors lined up as nominees for the prestigious 92nd annual Academy Awards, the excitement was pretty justified. The 2020 Oscars proved to be an epoch-making event in its history, as Parasite became the first foreign-language film to receive the Oscar for the Best Picture and many such firsts like Brad Pitt and Laura Dern receiving their first Oscars made the evening even more delirious and memorable.
But simultaneously, we had our eyes on the red carpet regale too as some celebrities graced the event with shimmer and regalness, while some used the platform to make subtle yet bold statements that surely grabbed everyone by their collars. The function overall oozed with high-end sophisticated yet edgy fashion and therefore, we present to you our top 5 favourite looks from Oscars 2020 red carpet!
1. Scarlett Johansson
Ditched her feathered hat and oxford shoes from Jojo Rabbit for this gorgeous Oscar De La Renta pewter gown. We approve, big time.
2. Natalie Portman
Natalie decided to subtly make a statement about all the great female directors who were snubbed by not even being nominated in the category as she wore a Dior Haute couture gown with a cape that had the names of these directors embroidered on it. The look overall spoke volumes about female power.
3. Billy Porter
If Billy porter shows up to an event, his look is sure to make it to the top picks list. Billy walked the carpet wearing custom couture by Giles Deacon and shoes by the legend themselves, Jimmy Choo.
4. Charlize Theron
Theron went for an ultra-sophisticated ball night look with a black Dior Haute Couture slit gown and jewelled with Tiffany & Co. jewellery. She could slit open our throat in that look and we would still say thank you.
5. Brie Larson
Brie looked elegantly sexy in a salmon pink gown by Celine and wore minimal jewellery from Bulgari. The plunge neck, the slit in the front, the backless bodice and the cape effect, oof, what not to like!
