Ruskin Bond Is Narrating His Short Stories On All India Radio Amidst Lockdown

Plunged in the adversities of the Covid-19 pandemic, where lives are suffering great loss and major boredom amid the lockdown, different ways are being introduced to make our lives much easier and bring on the entertainment quotient for the survival hours. As a part of Prasar Bharati’s inventiveness to keep its listeners engaged during the lockdown, All India Radio (AIR) is beautifully broadcasting a series of short stories by renowned author Ruskin Bond which is read by the world famous eminent writer himself. The series commenced from May 1, 2020 and is available on Akashvani’s terrestrial as well as digital platforms as informed in an All India Radio statement.

The Statesman

Titled Bonding Over The Radio, the series will be initially running for 15 days and is featuring stories exclusively handpicked for All India Radio by the multiple award winning essayist and novelist. Ranging from autobiographical sketches to ghost and fantasy stories, boarding school tales, animal and family anecdotes and even young love, the endearing and enduring tales are narrated by the much-loved author in his inimitable style. Undoubtedly his notable works such as ‘Our Trees Still Grow In Dehra’, ‘A Flight Of Pigeons’, ‘The Blue Umbrella’ etc. makes our heart beats faster with every change of plot and amazing storylines. The Indian Council for Child Education has recognised his role in the growth of children’s literature in India.

Recorded over telephone from his cottage in Mussoorie, it is expected that the stories will bring some cheer to listeners, especially the young adults who are the target audience.The broadcasts are available on Prasar Bharati’s mobile app ‘NewsOnAir’ as well as on three channels – FM Gold, Indraprastha and All India Radio Live News 24×7 at 7.10 am and 10.10 pm respectively daily. The initiative is a collaborative production between the External Services Division and the central English features unit of the All India Radio.
