Touching another milestone, designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee completed 25 years in fashion with a grand show filled with nostalgia, boldness, royalty and glamour. The Kolkata-based designer celebrated this anniversary at the Jio Convention Centre in Mumbai while showcasing his bold designs inspired by his signature regal aesthetic mixed with old-world elegance. His long-awaited return to the runway was anything and everything we fans hoped for–glamour, maximalism, retro and a celebrity fanbase.
Actress Deepika Padukone made a comeback after maternity break as she opened for Sabyasachi last night and how. Her look was anything but simple. The actress looked ethereal in an oversized white shirt, trousers and trench coat. The signature Sabyasachi jewellery gave her outfit the brand’s hallmark maximalist style while her bold makeup and hairstyle created retro magic. The internet immediately went gaga over this fierce look, comparing it to the iconic Rekha ji’s style.

The whole set was designed to give a nostalgic ode to the beauty of Kolkata. Filled with the emblem Royal Bengal Tiger in various elements, the models walked on a vintage Kolkata street with bonedi bari in the backdrop and a colossal water fountain in the middle.
The collection of pieces Sabyasachi showcased last night championed maximalism, continuing the transformation of Indian traditional embroidery into globally accessible iterations. It seamlessly blends old and new, bold and subtle. 90s supermodel Christy Turlington closed the show. Other iconic models who walked for the show include Laxmi Menon, Indrani Dasgupta Paul, Sheetal Malhar and Carol Gracias.
The guestlist of 600 included some big names from Bollywood who dazzled the night in Sabyasachi attires. Actress Alia Bhatt slayed in a black Sabya saree and gold tiny blouse with minimal hair and makeup, keeping it classy. Sonam Kapoor chose the bold route with a tank top with pencil skirt and dramatic fur coat. Aditi Rao Hydari, Ananya Panday, Sharvari, Bipasha Basu, Shabana Azmi and many more stars added grace to the red carpet.
