And just like every beautiful story, the memorable New York Fashion Week event has ended! Kicking off one of the biggest months in fashion, this month’s spring-summer 2025 New York Fashion Week officially ran from 6 to 11 September 2024. This season’s fashion week didn’t sell short in serving captivating looks and star-studded moments despite having a smaller-than-usual schedule.

Sultry Sheer
Designers are looking to carry the sultry look of sheer into 2025 through gauzy knits, see-through skirts, and semi-sheer dresses. Worn with or without body-skimming underlayers, the hemlines of these exquisite outfits were see-through and floor-length. Famous for designing outfits with hyper feminine accents, LoveShackFancy’s founder Rebecca Hessel Cohen featured ephemeral, wispy gowns in this season’s New York Fashion Week collection. In contrast to Cohen’s blush and pink wedding-inspired collection, Christian Siriano fabricated a dark fairytale on the runway with his dramatic black see-through red carpet confections and pink poofy tulle dresses.
Extravagant Capes
Usually an autumn style, seeing capes in New York Fashion Week’s spring collection was a refreshing sight to behold for fashion enthusiasts. Instead of following the style norm of coats, brands like Tibi and Proenza Schouler introduced capes in a majestic style of tops and dresses, flowing beautifully around the models while walking on the runway.
The billowing cape dresses by Tibi, gigantic trench coats by Luar, and oversized sportswear by Adam Lippes were enough to prove to the world that roomy and baggy can look elegant too. One of the spectacular moments from this season was at Alaïa’s Guggenheim museum show where the creative director Pieter Mulier showcased a pair of palazzo pants and spherical coats along with earrings as long as a necklace in size.
Denim on Denim
This season’s New York Fashion Week runways were filled with Jeanswear jackets and vests, denim skirts, and wide-legged and slouched pants. In Rachel Comey’s collection, blousy denim tops were paired with wide-legged jeans, while a sculptural dark denim zip top with matching puffed-out clamdiggers to set a fashion statement was showcased by Zero + Maria Cornejo. So, don’t be surprised if you see blue fashion come back in trend with flowy denim next year’s summer.

Very Demure, Very Ladylike
At Tanner Fletcher, models served in feminine silhouettes of satin and lace on the runway giving the collection a retro edge. Compact pastel suits and short satin dresses in Sandy Liang’s collection were sure a show-stealer, while Michael Kors’s voluminous white lace at 3.1 Philip Lim and sharp lace midi skirts looked sophisticated and timeless. A show titled ‘Touch Grass’ at Collina Strada showcased ruffled flouncy skirts with comfortable-looking flats in their collection offering a fresh and easy touch to it.
Funnel Necks
Surprised but still pleased to see another autumn trend of funnel necks in this season’s New York Fashion Week. Instead of going for the usual heavy-duty coats or jackets for chillier weather, Brandon Maxwell and Khaite showcased collections featuring trench coats and sheer tops with funnel neck detailings.
All About the Belt
While admiring all the jaw-dropping statement looks on the runway of this season’s New York Fashion Week, the simple outfits featuring belts were also able to steal the spotlight with their elegance. Designs from collections of Tibi, Ralph Lauren, and Brandon Maxwell served as the reminder to never underestimate the effect these simple pieces of accessories can have on an ensemble.
