Varun Bahl, known for his traditional Indian-wear showcased his collection at the FDCI Indian Couture Week 2017 (ICW ’17). Inspired by the Art Nouveau period the designer created a  vintage floral story. He named his collection ‘Dream Nouveau’. The event took place at the Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi on July 28.

The collection was inspired by masterpieces of the Chezh Art Nouveau painter and artist Alphonse Mucha. These included The Le Pater (1889), The Seasons (1896), and The Flowers (1898). The collection reflected the artists’ traditional bohemian influence through neo classical motifs.

Describing his collection, the designer said,” Through this collection we, have tried to recreate a magical sequence of designs tonight. With Art Nouveau being the inspiration, we have tried to enhance the artistic elements with ornamentation and silhouettes with classic cuts. Each and every design was catered to carefully and was created by blending poetry and fantasy to transport the audience to a dreamy atmosphere.”

The garments featured curvi- linear patterns, asymmetrical lines, and floral and plant motifs, while the colour palette was a subtle combination of ivory, pale pink, peach, burnt orange, pistachio, red, and old rose on magnificent fabrics like silk, tulle, and georgette.

The collection had a variety of ensembles like lehengas, jacket anarkalis, saris, and mix of tailored couture pieces on the ramp, along with Jewellery from Shree Raj Mahal Jewellers
