Celebrate the departure of winters and the successful harvest of crops this Lohri, with Wedding Affair.
January 13th, 2025 is being celebrated as Lohri across the state. Celebrated mainly in Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, the festival marks the end of the chilling winter season and the successful harvest of crops of the season such as sugarcane, wheat and mustard. The story of Lohri is associated with the tale of Dulla Bhatti, a Rajput warrior, known for his acts of kindness towards the poor. According to the legend, he saved two young girls from being sold to a cruel man and later married them off respectively. The songs sung during the festival remember the tales of his kindness and bravery. Additionally, in Sikhism, the day is considered to be the birthday of the first Guru of Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev Ji and thus holds importance.

Lohri Rituals
Lohri is a grand celebration where people light bonfires in gardens and on the grounds around their houses. Folk dances, music and singing of traditional songs such as Sundari Mundari make the festival even more joyous and lively. People get together to thank Mother Nature and welcome the new year with smiling faces and offer food items such as jaggery, peanuts, popcorn, repair and other offerings to the fire. As per some, the crackling sound of these items in the fire marks the end of the winter spell and the arrival of warmth. People also exchange sweets with each other such as gajak, revari, peanuts and more.
Similarly, Makar Sankranti will be celebrated in the western regions of Gujarat and Maharashtra with kite-flying on January 14th, 2025.
