For his 11th appearance at the Paris Haute Couture Week, Indian couturier Rahul Mishra showcased seven stages of love through his Fall/Winter 25-26 collection ‘Becoming Love’. Inspired by Sufism, the designs highlighted an exploration of love—a love that is overwhelming, all-consuming and above all, Real. The bittersweet forms of love, all seven stages of it, were the threads of the collection. Attraction, infatuation, surrender, reverence, devotion, obsession, and ultimately, death—Mishra shaped all these emotions into a mesmerising set of garments that is rich in metaphor, memory and exquisite craftsmanship.
Joining forces with the legendary hat designer Stephen Jones, who is also famous for being Princess Diana’s favourite, Rahul Mishra crafted a collection that is more than a plain story; it’s a rhythm of love with a depiction of complex emotions on the surface. Tanishq joined as a jewellery partner, adding bling to this collaboration.
Using multiple symbols like heartbeat to represent the rhythm of love, floral motifs to represent love’s ephemeral nature, gold and black to represent passion, and ethereal elements for love and reverence.
Apart from Sufism, the designs were heavily driven by Gustav Klimt’s nude paintings. Every intricate detail of the garments was well-thought-out and brilliantly executed to portray emotion in high couture by Mishra and Jones.
Actress Lisa Haydon walked the runway for the show, while rapper Cardi B attended the show in a custom Rahul Mishra.
