A chilling whodunnit mystery book that’s bound to keep you guessing till the very end!
As an avid book reader, I have always been drawn to the allure of thrillers and mysteries. The adrenaline rush of piecing together clues, unravelling secrets and solving the crime alongside the author has always kept me on my toes. In search of such a book, as I was backpacking tahrough the mountains, I stumbled upon “A Murder in Dehradun” by Sidharth Maheshwari. To be honest, I didn’t expect much from it—it’s been a while since I’ve read a gripping mystery book from an Indian author. But curiosity got the best of me, and I decided to give it a shot! Little did I know, this book would hook me from the very first page.
Set in the fictional Dinshaw Estate, a scenic hilltop property in Dehradun, the story plunges the reader into a chilling murder mystery. It revolves around the murder of the family’s patriarch amidst a snowstorm, which traps thirteen potential suspects within the mansion.
What begins as a singular act of violence spirals into a labyrinth of greed, betrayal, and hidden secrets as a second murder shakes the already fractured family. With the help of a sharp detective, the investigation unfolds like a classic whodunnit, but what stands out the most is how there are subtle clues left by the author for his readers, making the story more interesting and engaging. With his crisp writing, Maheshwari set the scene and the characters, allowing us to see their quirks, fears and motives. Every small detail in the book unknowingly became a clue, forcing me to pay attention to all the details that were provided, and that is honestly something only the best of the best mystery books can do.
