The first day of FDCI India Couture Week 2024, greeted fashion enthusiasts with the best of wedding fashion. Check it out!

FDCI’s Hyundai India Couture Week 2024 began with a bang on July 24, 2024. The first day featured a debut of the collection “ASAL and Mard” by prominent Indian couture designers Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. Held at the Durbar Hall at the Taj Palace with Wamiqa Gabbi and Taha Shah as the showstoppers, this was the designers’ first showcase in New Delhi in seven years.

Whether you are a modern bride with chic preferences, a traditional bride who would love an outfit corroborating the Indian culture, or a wedding guest looking to dazzle at an upcoming wedding, this collection has an outfit for every wedding fashion enthusiast out there. The showcase also brought in some much-needed breath of fresh air in men’s wedding fashion from sheer long kurtas, wide anarkalis, sequined pants to grand grooms’ jewellery.

Inspiration Behind the Show

The collection was inspired by the royal history of the country, its rajas and rajkumaris. “We aim to celebrate the spirit of love between modern couples, a bride who carries her cultural heritage with ease and pride, and a regal groom who exudes contemporary sophistication in a modern spirit, thus harmonising the old with the new to create the ideal wardrobe for their big day!” commented the designer duo while explaining their latest line.

Wamiqa opened the show in an Ivory Trail Lehenga from the ‘Botanical Bloom’ line, featuring Resham embroidery with ivory silk threads highlighted with pearls and crystals. On the other hand, Taha Shah looked dashing in an olive silk tissue long kurta sparkling with crystal-encrusted flying birds. It was paired with brocade flared pants that were relaxed, yet regal.

Commenting on the opportunity, Wamiqa said, “I’m thrilled to have been a part of this beautiful show by ASAL by Abu Sandeep. They surely know how to make a woman feel beautiful. Everything was so dreamy. I’m going to cherish this experience forever and someday be a real ASAL bride too!”

“Collaborating with Abu Sandeep was an absolute dream come true. Their creativity is a constant source of inspiration. Mard by Abu Sandeep immersed me in a glamorous universe, enhancing my style with unmatched elegance and flair,” added Taha Shah.

Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla are known for quirking things and they did not let the opportunity go with this showcase. With the music based on a ‘Disco Mujra’ theme, they presented their artful collection amidst a massive Haveli-inspired backdrop created by Abhinav Bhagat Events.

Popular stand-up comedian Sumukhi Suresh introduced the show with her quintessential humour and an original soundtrack with the viral musician duo Akshay and IP became the perfect music for the show. “Ghana Chowdhary”, “Sharam Da Chola”, “Haari Re”, “Cake” and “Snow” were some of the featured songs during the ramp walks and G.K. Chudiwala’s intricate fine jewellery complemented the garments for the brides as well as the grooms, bringing in a new trend in wedding fashion.
