Today marks the fifth anniversary of World Cotton Day; after the initiative to celebrate the essence of this timeless fabric was proposed by the four producers of cotton in sub-Saharan Africa– Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, and Mali, known as the Cotton Four to the World Trade Organisation in 2019. This provided the world with a useful opportunity to educate everyone on the importance and varied utilisation of cotton in the textile industry.
So, we at Wedding Affair decided to use this occasion of Cotton Day 2024 to explore different types of cotton cultivated in India and their varying uses in the textile industry through this blog.
Khadi
Derived from the word, khaddar, which means handwoven, khadi is the most famous and timeless fabric of Indian textile made from cotton. With its rich aspiration from India’s freedom struggle, khadi is famous for its breathability, sustainability, and durability among the public.
