Step into the world of Navyug Khadi and discover a story waiting to unfold.

In the evolving landscape of Indian textiles, Navyug Khadi has emerged as a refreshing movement, one that we at Wedding Affair are delighted to explore. This initiative, brought to life through a thoughtfully curated fashion showcase, celebrates India’s most treasured textile in a way that feels rooted, relevant and undeniably modern.

Hosted at the beautifully adorned Amphitheatre of the National Crafts Museum and Hastakala Academy, Pragati Maidan, the event brought together dignitaries, designers, artisans and culture enthusiasts under one expansive sky. The Center of Excellence for Khadi (CoEK), established by the Ministry of MSME in collaboration with NIFT, presented the show in association with FDCI. Their shared mission was clear: to build a fresh narrative around Navyug Khadi and reaffirm its significance for today’s generation.

A Showcase Curated With Vision

Curated by FDCI, the presentation unfolded like an artistic tapestry. It featured contemporary Khadi ensembles ranging from elegant saris to modern silhouettes and inventive upcycled pieces. Designed by CoEK and crafted with precision by Khadi institutions across India, the collection stood out for its diversity, sustainability and retail-ready appeal. This was Khadi reinvented; still anchored in tradition but styled for the now.

The ambience heightened the experience. Fashion blended seamlessly with expressive dance performances and soulful live singing, creating an immersive format that felt both celebratory and intimate. As models walked in Khadi that embraced regional craftsmanship, the narrative felt layered, multidimensional and deeply connected to India’s artistic roots.

The evening was graced by Shri Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the Khadi & Village Industries Commission, who attended as the Chief Guest. Ms Roop Rashi (CEO, CoEK), Smt. Tanu Kashyap (Director General, NIFT) and Sunil Sethi (Chairman, FDCI) were also present, each representing a key pillar in India’s design and craft ecosystem. Together, they emphasised a vision to elevate Navyug Khadi into an aspirational textile that appeals to younger audiences while continuing to honour the rural artisans who preserve its heritage.

Their combined efforts reflect a powerful movement, one that values craftsmanship, champions sustainability and positions Khadi at the forefront of contemporary Indian fashion.
