Vistara officially merges with Air India on November 12, 2024. Read below to know everything about this significant transition.
Vistara is merging with the Tata Group’s flagship airline Air India on November 12, effectively closing the services of the decade-old airline. This merger came as no surprise as it was set in motion in 2022 when Tata Group acquired Air India from the government. As Singapore Airlines has informed the Singapore Stock Exchange about getting approvals for FDI or Foreign Direct Investment into Air India, news of the merger came into the limelight.
The merge has left travel enthusiasts with existing booking and loyalty points with Vistara. Starting from 3rd September 2024, flights will progressively not be available for bookings for travelling beyond 11th November 2024. All bookings after that will be operated by Air India. Customers who have already booked tickets of Vistara for travel on 12th November or beyond will have their tickets transferred to Air India.
Vistara, the renowned airline backed by the trust and reliability of Tata Sons and known for their world-class service thanks to Singapore Airlines and Star Alliance, has become many first in India. Vistara is the first airline to offer Premium Economy flights in Indian skies. It also inducted its A321neo to fly regional international routes and became the first airline in India to provide a flatbed experience on narrowbody aircraft.
A unified airline will be in operation from November 12 and the name Vistara will be history. The unique journey of the airline is ending after 3,595 days of operations and Vistara will join the club of Air Sahara and Air Deccan who also ended their journey with a merger. Air Sahara merged with Jet Airways, while Air Deccan joined Kingfisher Airlines.
