Mr. Nitin Tandon, Director of The Bharat Hospitality – TBH, discusses how food is a full sensory journey that extends beyond taste.

A multisensory food experience helps this celebration be more immersive, emotional and unforgettable.  Because beyond flavours, food is a powerful storytelling tool. Team Wedding Affair reached out to five industry giants to gain expert insights on how and why to create an unforgettable multisensory experience through food.

In this blog of the series “The Art of Multi-Sensory Food Experience”, we spoke with Mr. Nitin Tandon, Director of The Bharat Hospitality – TBH. With over 87 years of culinary legacy, The Bharat Hospitality stands today as a pioneer of the catering industry, serving delectable meals to many grand and notable clients. With Nitin’s vision to innovate and globalise while preserving the glorious heritage, The Bharat Hospitality aims to create lasting memories with each and every event.

“In today’s experience-driven world, food is no longer just about taste; it’s a full sensory journey. Especially with the rise of social media and increasing popularity of mindful experiences, beautiful, immersive dishes have become part of any event’s lasting legacy. Every detail is curated for impact and emotion at a wedding, and multisensory dining enhances the celebration in powerful ways. It helps guests connect more deeply through vivid memories triggered by sight, smell, texture, and sound. Beyond flavour, food becomes a storytelling tool, reflecting the couple’s culture, personality, and shared moments,” said Nitin.

But is it possible to engage all five senses equally, more specifically, in wedding catering? “Naturally, some senses take the lead over others. Taste, sight and smell dominate the dining experiences as they are directly linked to how we enjoy and evaluate food. Touch plays a quiet but powerful supporting role, while hearing is often the trickiest to incorporate meaningfully, especially in social or noisy settings like weddings,” said Nitin, emphasising how, through thoughtful layering, the dining experience becomes richer, more memorable and emotionally resonant.

He shares one such memorable experience curated by The Bharat Hospitality. “At an intimate outdoor wedding, we created a dining experience inspired by the couple’s love for Food, Art and Travel. Guests were greeted by the aroma of cedarwood and herbs, while hand-painted plates and edible flowers brought each dish to life visually. A live chef’s station added sound with sizzling flames, and the menu was crafted with contrasting textures to keep every bite interesting. The flavours told a story, drawing from global cuisines the couple loved.”

How does The Bharat Hospitality utilise multisensory experience to create memories worth cherishing for a lifetime? Nitin told us, “The goal isn’t perfect balance, it’s thoughtful layering. When each sense is considered, the dining experience becomes richer, more memorable, and emotionally resonant.”
