What visa rules have changed for Indians in 2024?

Indefinite Visa-Free Travel to Thailand
Tourism between Thailand and India has never been better. With new visa rules, the Royal Thai Government extended its Tourist Visa Exemption Scheme, allowing Indian and Taiwanese nationals to travel to Thailand visa-free indefinitely till further notice. With a visa-free entry, Indians can stay up to 60 days in Thailand, enjoying the country’s infinite beauty.
MDAC for Visa-Free Travel to Malaysia
Indians travelling to Malaysia have been eligible for visa-free entry, but with the new visa rules, they have to complete a mandatory entry registration document named Malaysian Digital Arrival Card or MDAC. It has to be completed at least three days before the arrival, via online or offline with documents such as a valid passport, return ticket, proof of funds and health declarations. The visa-free stay limit is up to 30 days.

Japan Introduces eVisas
In April 2024, Japan made eVisas available for Indian travellers. The process still involves submitting documents and applications to VFS, but it is designed especially for short-term tourism. Both Indian citizens and foreign nationals residing here can apply for a single-entry option that allows them to stay up to 90 days in Japan.
Australia’s Working Holiday Maker Visa Program
India has joined Australia’s Working Holiday Maker Visa Program. Eligible Indian passport holders now can participate in a random selection to apply for a first Work and Holiday visa to Australia. This program will grant this visa to up to 1000 eligible Indian citizens aged between 18 and 30 each year. If you are selected, you can visit Australia for one year and undertake work or study while vacationing there.
Multiple-Entry Tourist Visa for Five Years for Dubai
In the newest visa rules tailored to Indian travellers, Dubai has offered a five-year, multiple-entry tourist visa. Aiming to gain a surge in Indian tourists in the city, Dubai now allows stays up to 90 days in the country, extendable once without exceeding 180 days annually. This particular change will be beneficial for both business and leisure travellers.
Sri Lanka Restarts online ETA Application
With the new visa rules from Sri Lanka, Indian travellers can apply for Electronic Travel Authorisation or ETA directly online without going to any third party. Indians are also now eligible for visa-free travel to Sri Lanka, for a 30-day travel period to enjoy the country along with a double entry permit from the date of first arriving to the country, according to a recent update.
New e-Visa System for the Philippines
Indians are now eligible for e-visa to the Philippines, making it quicker and more seamless for them to travel to the country. So far only single-entry e-visas to the Philippines are allowed meaning you cannot re-enter the country with it. The initially allowed visiting period is 30 days, which can be extended by applying for renewal.
Multiple-Entry Schengen Visas for Indians
New Schengen visa rules have made travel for Indian travellers easier, particularly for those who have already visited the Schengen countries. As per the new visa rules, Romania and Bulgaria are now authorised to issue Schengen visas and Indians who apply for this short-term visa now can stay for a longer time as the visa is valid for two years now.
