We lost the gem of our country this Wednesday in Mumbai when the celebrated industrialist and philanthropist Ratan Tata took his last breath at the age of 86. Deeply saddened by the loss, India will never forget his memorable contributions to this country and the countrymen. Honoured by the second-highest civilian award, Padma Vibhushan, for his memorable contribution to Indian society, Mr. Tata never married and stayed single all his life. But, there were some rare instances during interviews where he shared about his personal life. Let’s peek at those rare precious moments in this blog created by the Wedding Affair team.
CNN Interview
In a candid interview with CNN, Mr. Tata shared that he had fallen in love and came close to committing to a marriage four times in his life but every time it never worked out and he had to back off due to one reason or another. One of his most significant relationships occurred when he was working in an architecture firm after graduating from Cornell University in the U.S. He planned on marrying an American woman but those plans got interrupted when she didn’t move to India for marriage due to the Indo-China conflict in 1962. Hence, Mr. Tata’s love story remained memorable but incomplete.
Simi Garewal
During one of his rare appearances on Simi Garewal’s talk show in 1997, Ratan Tata revealed that sometimes he longs for a happy and loving family. However, he also shared in the same interview that he enjoys the liberty that singlehood provides him as he doesn’t need to worry about hurting the other person’s emotions.
