With a clear vision to elevate the country’s tourism sector to new heights, Mughda Sinha has been appointed as the new Director General of Tourism for IndiaSinha’s goal to make India the top global tourist destination across various segments also includes the fast-growing sector of wedding tourism. Her vision is backed by her rich background in culture and administration in the past.

Before Mugdha Sinha handled a significant role in the Ministry of Culture, managing divisions dealing with Galleries, Libraries, Archives, Anthropology, and Museums. Now, she wants to transition her passion for rich Indian heritage into the tourism fold of the country.  She said, “Culture has all the assets – the heritage offerings – and tourism can showcase those assets.” 

Then, further added, “For me, culture and tourism are conjoined at the hip. Tourism needs culture for its unique offerings, and culture needs tourism for the visibility and footfalls.” In her new role, Sinha is responsible for marketing, product development, and leveraging India’s unique cultural identity in global tourism markets. She aims to diversify the Indian tourism portfolio by focusing on adventure tourism, heritage tourism, wellness tourism, MICE, cruise and wedding tourism.

Sinha’s approach to the new tourism strategy for India is driven by her deep commitment towards data analysis. Sinha believes that data is essential in refining India’s tourism offerings. Her efforts are focused on turning the catchphrase ‘Incredible India’ into a reality making India the first choice for travellers.
