Day 2 of the Lakme Fashion Week 2024 X FDCI was observed as a sustainable day focusing on eco-friendly fashion. Get to more deets on the designers and collections in this blog!
The Lakme Fashion Week 2024 X FDCI began on October 9th 2024 and will go on till October 13th 2024. One of the most awaited fashion galas of the country, the event is anticipated annually by designers and fashion enthusiasts ready to see what more the Indian fashion industry can achieve. Just like every year, Day 2 of the week was celebrated as Sustainable Day with an esteemed lineup of designers presenting collections that focused on various eco-friendly themes.
The day began with an NIFD Global presentation titled Gennext including designers and labels such as Ananya- The Label, VJ, 2112 SALDON, and MARGN. Ananya- The Label presented the collection ‘Zazen’ inspired by the painting made by Odilon Redon, ‘The Budhdha’. With a colour palette derived from the painting, the ensembles were only made from plant-based fabrics such as kala cotton, vegan silk, and embroidered with phulkari. VJ by Sakshi Punyani, is a knitwear brand that presented eight garments based on the journey of grief and made with an array of yarns and knitting techniques.
Taking inspiration from the traditional attires of Goncha, Sulma, or Kos 2112 SALDON brought the Ladakhi culture on the ramp focusing on traditional techniques and colours. MARGN on the other hand explored the idea of protection by clothes along with experimenting with knits in menswear essentials.
Next up was the NIFD Global ‘The Runway’ where ‘Chor Bazar’, a collection inspired by the chor bazaar of Mumbai was presented in collaboration with FDCI. Actress Fatima Sana Shaikh turned showstopper for the designers Chetan Mali and Mahendra Chowdhury who are both one of the most talented students at NIFD Global Kothrud.
Designer Anurag Gupta began the next showcase for Lakme Fashion Week 2024 X FDCI with his collection inspired by the Palace de la Bastille, reflecting on the French Revolution through thematic creations. EK KATHA, a sustainable luxury fashion brand presented a collection titled ‘Moments ‘N Memories’ delving into the concept of slow clothing with ensembles made from handwoven cloth and printed with Batik woodblocks. Alan Alexander’s KALEEKAL concluded the session with the collection ‘H Y M N’ made from sculptural silhouettes and zero-waste origami patterns.

ANTAR-AGNI, a label by designer Ujwal Dubey celebrated its 10-year-anniversary with a new festive collection- ‘Two Faced’. Derived from classic Indian fabrics like hand-woven cotton from UP, hand-woven silks from Varanasi, and velvets and cotton silks in various shades, the ensembles embody futuristic designs with a traditional touch.
Designer Payal Pratap’s collection ‘Kiss from a Rose’ transported the viewers to the prairie with floral designs that were cross-stitched, used as patchworks, appliques, and also printed as pixelated patterns on a range of womenswear.
Also held on Day 2 of the Lakme Fashion Week 2024 X FDCI was the R|ELAN Circular Design Challenge in partnership with the United Nations in India. The event included finalists such as A BLUNT STORY, Jaggery: Reimagining Waste, SALTLESS, Acien, Rkive City, TSANGFANYU and Lafaani. Out of these, the Rkive City emerged as the winner for its collection made from discarded vintage clothing, whereas Lafaani was awarded as the runner-up for its collection ‘Meadows’ embracing the untamed beauty of nature.
Embracing serendipity, Abraham & Thakore’s presentation included actress Shefali Shah as a stunning showstopper. The finest silks, georgettes and organza were combined with quirky materials to transform them into clothes that find beauty in the forgotten and the everyday.

As it does every year, the Sustainable Day at Lakme Fashion Week 2024 X FDCI elevated Indian fashion industry’s contribution towards sustainable fashion and brought forth new ways of innovation of fashion and preservation of the environment.
