Panerai Honours MSD By Launching Two Special Edition Watches

Panerai, an Italian luxury watchmaker, has honoured its year-long partnership with Mahendra Singh Dhoni by launching two special-edition watches dedicated to the cricketing legend. Both the watches — the Luminor GMT – 44 mm (PAM01056) and the Luminor Chrono Flyback – 44 mm (PAM01057) were launched in  a ceremony on November 28 in Mumbai.

Dhoni has been the Indian brand ambassador for Panerai since a year now and both the watches exhibit the best of Dhoni’s attributes and Panerai’s classic silhouette. The Luminor GMT – 44 mm (PAM01056) which is tough and reliable with its case of solid AISI 316L stainless steel. The same is true of the Luminor Chrono Flyback – 44 mm (PAM01057), which is naturally more sophisticated but just as good-looking with its case made of GoldtechTM, a gold alloy developed by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee.

Addressing MS Dhoni’s favourite colour as well as one of the colours of the Indian flag, green has been kept as the colour of both the dials. Other personalized details include the case-back which is engraved with MS Dhoni’s signature, his cricketing image in the helicopter shot position, the number 183 that symbolizes his highest score in one-day international Cricket and an outline of the Indian sub-continent map.

“It’s a process to come up with a product, and when there is a company and an individual who sit together to design a watch, you have to keep in mind the ethos of the company, the workings of the company and what they put forward. You have to balance out everything and put forward something that’s very Panerai and that relates to me,” Dhoni said on the occasion of the launch.

“He knew the watch industry, so we didn’t have to tell him what was feasible and what wasn’t. I was a new CEO when I first met him, and he knew the brand better than I did” said Panerai CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué.

The Chrono Flyback is limited to 77 pieces while the Luminor GMT is available in 251 numbers. The two new Panerai watches faithfully express the dynamic dual personality of MS Dhoni: determined, dependable and confident in the field, he is eclectic, impeccable and sociable out of it.
