Fashion is an expression. Fashion is about coming closer to oneself when one begins to express through his/her clothes. Fashion is freedom. For years now, the fashion world has been accused of being avaricious with the ostentatious values the fashion shows, weeks and months had exhibited. Paris Fashion Week (PFW) Spring-Summer (SS) 2020 from September 23 to October 1, 2019 (extended up to October 4 for mini-events), in some ways, took the necessary first step towards the reversal of that perception. Fashion emerged victoriously. While some collections by designers like Rick Owens came armed with political statements, Alexander McQueen’s was the show that warmed a million hearts with the way it denounced pop taste via its messages of community, consciousness and artisanal calibre.
Fashion world virtuosos like Dior, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Chanel presented their collections among others. Sarah Burton’s Spring 2020 collection for Alexander McQueen created something of an iconic moment when she was accompanied by an entire team of McQueen staffers for her bow at the end. The flower motifs of endangered species on her creations carried obscure meanings for a major statement of conservation and community.
