The Grand Finale of Lakme Fashion Week

The grand finale of the fabled Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2017 was a grand affair. Apart from the impressive display of array of collections, the finale marked the return of Kareena Kapoor Khan to the ramp. She glided the ramp for the first time after delivering her baby-boy Taimur.

The day unsealed with the collections of Divya Reddy, Gaurav Khanijo and Vineet-Rahul. Divya Reddy’s collection “Shahibzadi” brought regal glamour to the show, synchronizing with the name. The spotlight of the collection was the use of  Konda Patti (wild mountain cotton) in the ensembles created and were woven by the locals of Adilabad forest.  Turning heads to the collection was Malaika Arora Khan who walked down the ramp in a sexy red bralet with a yellow tiered, pleated lehenga and matching georgette dupatta.

Anushree Reddy showcased her beautiful collection “An Indian Summer” wedding trousseau that inculcated the employment of floral prints and flowy tailoring in pastel shades of green and pink.

The first blossoms of summer were captured exquisitely by Karn Malhotra through his collection “Bloom” and the stunning beauty Amyra Dastur captivated the attention of the audience sheathing the one off-shoulder asymmetric gown of the collection that had tones of powder blue and metallic grey cascading down the ensemble.

Then came Gaurang Shah, who showcased a collection of white traditional wear in muslin interspersed with gold details. The collection “Muslin” was distinguishable among other collections. Showstopper, Tabu brought the show to an end wearing a magnificent wide gold bordered anarkali over a swirling lehenga teamed with an ornate gold dupatta.

The Grand finale also witnessed the use of a hashtag show to give a social message to the audience. The ‘#NotWhatIWear’ campaign by Ajio.com is encouraging women to make their own choices, sartorial and otherwise and not be judged for it. RJ Malishka, Mallika Dua and Varun Thakur endorsed the #NotWhatIWear movement.

Kareena Kapoor Khan sashayed the ramp in Anita Dongre’s latest collection ‘Alchemy’ in the evening’s grant finale, which found its inspiration in Lakme’s ‘Liquid Gold’ collection. Kareena emerged to be the highlight of the grand finale, her appearance made it a bigger affair. Anita Dongre inculcated ethereal evening gowns, pristine white midis and subtle, understated lehengas in cream, white and gold in her gold theme collection.
