5 Luxury Hotels in Delhi to extend as COVID Hospitals: Delhi Govt

The Delhi government has asked five major luxury hotels across the city to function as makeshift hospitals, as the capital struggles with bedding capacity. Authorities said that they are linking five hotels to existing COVID-19-dedicated hospitals. Hence, these shall double up as extended coronavirus facilities. This move by the government shall increase the bedding capacity in the capital by 1000 beds. 

The government has capped the price charged by the luxury hotels for providing regular services like rooms, housekeeping, disinfection and food for the patients at Rs. 5,000 per day per person for five-star hotels and Rs. 4,000 for four- and three-star hotels. Also, the price charge cap by hospitals for providing medical services is at Rs. 5,000 per patient per day, including consumables, services of doctors, nurses, paramedical staff and nursing staff, among others. The Hotels

“The attached private hospital is required to provide sufficient manpower (nurses and doctors) as per norms. Further, the attached hospital is also required to provide oxygen supply. Hence, this can either be in the form of oxygen concentrator or oxygen cylinder, in the extended COVID Hospital,” the Delhi government said in its order.

The Government Order

The Delhi government released an order saying that these five luxury hotels will receive medical services from the attached private hospital with each of them. Also, the five hotels that will function as makeshift hospitals include ITC Ltd’s Hotel Sheraton at Saket, Hotel Crown Plaza at Okhla Phase-I, Hotel Surya at New Friends Colony, Hotel Siddharth at Rajendra Place, Hotel Jivitesh at Pusa Road.

The Delhi government on Friday also announced a list of ten luxury hotels where people designated to home quarantine might stay on payment basis. Among the high-end hotels are Hotel Le Meridien and J.W. Marriott which will offer a stay to those eligible for home quarantine.
