Cannes Film Festival - Wedding Affair

The 76th edition of the Cannes Film Festival exuberantly started on May 16th 2023 in the resort city of Cannes, on the French Riviera. The glamorous 12-day journey drew a star-studded crowd. Also known as Festival de Cannes, the extravagant event celebrates cinema and appreciates quality work produced by professionals worldwide. Every year, the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival serves plenty of stunning looks that stay rent-free in our minds and this year was no exception. The stars graced the red carpet with cut-out silhouettes, dramatic trails, risqué dressing and dangling fringes. Hues of black, blue, green and ravishing red made a playful appearance on the red carpet.

This year’s 9-member jury, headed by jury president Ruben Östlund invited artists from across the globe, including Johnny Depp, Scarlett Johansson, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennie Kim, Lily Gladstone and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Manushi Chhillar who was crowned Miss World in 2017 made her debut on the red carpet along with Bollywood divas like Anushka Sharma, Sara Ali Khan and Esha Gupta. Manushi Chhillar adorned an all-white gown by Fovari. Anushka Sharma looked gorgeous in an off-shoulder ivory Richard Quinn Couture with hand-crafted embroidery. Representing Indian culture Sara Ali Khan went for a desi way with an off-white lehenga by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. Actor Michael Douglas receiving the honorary Palme d’Or for his exemplary contribution to the Hollywood industry was one of the major highlights at the Cannes film festival. The festival opened with the premiere screening of the masterpiece ‘Jeanne du Barry’, which received a standing ovation of touch over four minutes. Justine Triet’s ‘Anatomy of a Fall’, Jonathan Glazer’s ‘The Zone of Interest’, Todd Haynes’s ‘May December’, Martin Scorsese’s ‘Killers of the Flower Moon’ and ‘Banel & Adama’ by Ramata-Toulaye Sy were the most-appreciated premiers of the film festival.

India marked a significant presence at the event. Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Kennedy’, Kanu Behl’s ‘Agra’, Yudhajit Basu’s ‘Nehemich’ and Aribam Syam Sharma’s ‘Ishanou’ are part of the Indian showcase at Cannes. From actresses like Mrunal Thakur and Urvashi Rautela who exuded stunning looks to talented directors Anurag Kashyap and Vikramaditya Motwane, social media influencers Ranveer Allahbadia and Dolly Singh to charismatic actor Vijay Varma, a myriad of talents stood right under the French spotlight. Oscar winner Guneet Monga accompanied Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan who wore a traditional veshti to the red carpet.
