The 95th Academy Awards were held at Dolby Theater, Los Angeles on March 12, 2023. Comedian-producer Jimmy Kimmel marked his hat trick by hosting Hollywood’s biggest event. As the event shifted from daytime to nighttime, the traditional red carpet was replaced with a champagne-coloured carpet to match the vibe while protecting the attendees from potential weather changes. Hues of black, white, red, yellow, and playful pink graced the carpet, shedding their brilliance along. Fabrics like velvet, leather, and silk were seen prominently in the event with silhouettes like bodycon, sheath, halter neck, and forever-in-trend ballgowns. Some other notable looks of the evening included Mindy Kaling, who wore her Vera Wang outfit from last year with only a significant change of colour. Singer and producer Temilade Openiyi made a dramatic entry in a flowing white tulle gown by Lever Couture, including a headpiece that circled her head and shoulders.

The star-studded event was dominated by the cast of ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ as they bagged seven awards, including the award for Best Picture Of The Year 2023. Michelle Yeoh made headlines dressed in a white Dior couture A-line dress while winning hearts and the award for Best Actor. It made her the first Asian woman to receive an Academy Award. Also making history was Ruth E Carter who won Best Costume Designer for her work in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’. She also won an award in the same category in the year 2019, which makes her the only black woman to have two Oscars.

The beautiful Deepika Padukone glammed up the stage while introducing the category and the song, wearing an off-shoulder black velvet gown by Louis Vuitton. This year was significant for India as it bagged two awards; Best Original Song for Naatu Naatu and Best Documentary Short Subjects for ‘The Elephant Whispers’.

Suited in a black tuxedo by Tom Ford, host Jimmy Kimmel took a dig at William Smith’s infamous slap last year various times throughout the event and entertained the entire audience with his humour. The event showed two different animal appearances, one when Kimmel brought the mule and the second when a human disguised as a bear came behind Elizabeth Banks while she was presenting the award for Best Visual Effects. Several social media trolls took a jibe at last year’s cheating controversy against singer Adam Levine as he posed with his wife, Behati Prinsloo.
