Turkish Embassy In New Delhi Celebrates Turkey National Day

Turkey and India have always shared cordial relations with each other. Economically, both countries have developed diplomatic relations and made constant efforts to maintain them.

Turkey recently celebrated its Republic Day on October 29. This was the day in 1923 when Mustafa Kemal Atatürk declared that Turkey was henceforth a republic. Although the official confirmation of this fact came only three and a half years later when Turkey was declared a republic and its official name was proclaimed to be Türkiye Cumhuriyeti (“the Republic of Turkey”).

The Republic day is a public holiday and is celebrated with much vigour and enthusiasm all over Turkey and North Cyprus. There are cultural programmes, parades and fireworks to celebrate this important day in a grand manner.

The Turkish Embassy in New Delhi also celebrated the event with zeal. The Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey in New Delhi, Mr Şakir Özkan Torunlar celebrated the day in India. Mr Şakir has held various positions in the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs and as of now is the Turkish Ambassador to India.

On relations with India, Mr Şakir believes firmly that the future holds great promise and potential for deepening Turkish-Indian cooperation not just in politics, but also in other key areas such as commerce, investments, science, aviation, tourism and culture. He said, “In his tenure in India, his team and I will be continuing to work diligently in order to substantiate and further uplift the already existing good relations between our two friendly countries”.

He sent his best wishes to Wedding Affair, thanking us for our support for the promotion of Turkey in India. He said “Greetings to all Wedding Affair readers, I salute tens of young Indian couples who entered into a new phase in their lives in Turkey in 2019. Their families, friends and guests highly admired the hospitality extended to them while the traditions of both nations bridge their centuries-old common cultures. I also welcome all those who have recently booked their weddings in Istanbul, Antalya, Cappadoccia, Bodrum etc. for 2020”.
