So another weekend is finally here! And what does a good Saturday or Sun-Yay call for? Well, here is our list. Wake up late. Have an amazing breakfast (ahem…basically lunch which we call brunch)! And then sleep some more. Well, if you’re looking for an interesting brunch to try this week, Wedding Affair has some suggestions for you. Try these and thank us later!

Syrniki

Syrniki are made from a farmer’s cheese called Tvorog in Russian or Twarog in Polish. Tvorog is a creamy curd cheese very similar to ricotta and cottage cheese but is drier and has a tangy taste. The method of preparing syrniki is pretty much the same as old plain pancakes. If you ever attempted to make pancakes you will manage this recipe with ease. Combine cheese, eggs, sugar, oil, flour, baking powder and vanilla in a medium-size bowl and mix all the ingredients with a hand mixer until you get a homogenous mass. And cook like pancakes. Simple as ever breakfast, isn’t it?

Borek

Borek in Turkish breakfast or snack cuisine can be considered as a savoury pie, but thanks to phyllo sheets, much lighter than it. It has several types and shapes, but the method is basically the same: Phyllo sheets are filled with a filling you like and either fried as in Turkish Sigara Borek or baked. You can get creative about the filling. Some examples are spinach, cheese, lentils, mashed potatoes with herbs and spices, shredded chicken, ground beef or even sautéd leek.

Kaya Toast

Traditionally, the bread is toasted by hand using charcoal fire, which adds a tint of smoky flavour to the bread, but in modern days, a toaster works just perfectly. The other secret is cold butter, rock-solid cold butter which you cut a thin slice and then put in between the two warm toasts. Serve your kaya toast with a half-boiled egg, and a cup of dark coffee, preferably Malaysian kopi-O. This is how we enjoy our breakfast in Singapore.breakfast

Ladenia

Ladenia is a type of soft flatbread that’s topped with tomato slices, onions, and a generous drizzle of Greek olive oil. Hailing from Kimolos, this savoury delicacy is considered to be the Greek take on an Italian pizza. And it is believed to date back to the time of the Venetian occupation of the island. Amazing breakfast! Isn’t it? The dough is typically made with flour, yeast, water, and salt, although some versions also call for the addition of olive oil to the combination. Homemade tomato paste is often used in case there are no fresh tomatoes, while some people tend to enhance the simple tomato-onion topping with the addition of capers and peppers.

Chilaquiles

Chilaquiles (pronounced chee-luh-key-lays) are a traditional Mexican breakfast made with tortilla chips simmered in sauce. Typically, they’re made with green salsa or red enchilada sauce. Sauce forms the backbone of flavour in chilaquiles, so you need to use a great one.
