Met Gala 2024

The Met Gala is the fashion’s biggest night that happened with the theme ‘Garden of Time’.

This year’s red carpet had global a-listers and fashion icons at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. A special highlight was on the Indian celebrities with their visible presence on the international fashion scene.

Alia Bhatt

Alia Bhatt made a return to the Met Gala with a stunning floral Sabyasachi saree. The embroidery with a modern glamorous edge. Her saree highlighted the growing influence of Indian fashion on a globally.

 Isha Ambani

Isha Ambani wore Rahul Mishra dress that took 10,000 hours of work of fareesha, zardozi and nakshi. The vibrant wildflowers seemed to climb across the dress and created a view. 

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian ‘Girlfriend’s Sweater’ look was something different from the traditional red carpet gown. This Maison Margiela by John Galliano gown hugged her curves until the knees then it transformed into a flowing silver skirt. The unexpected twist came with a casual grey shrug draped over the shoulders showcased her ability to push boundaries and made statements with her fashion choices. 

Jennifer Lopez

As one of the co-chairs for the 2024 Met Gala, Jennifer Lopez arrived in a custom Schiaparelli Haute Couture sheer gown with structured jewels that looked like coral reef. The flow looked like a massive diamond necklace. 

Zendaya

Zendaya who is a Met Gala favourite, presented two showstopping looks for the night. Her first ensemble was a custom Valentino gown that had the base of a soft pink shade that later transformed into a black crystal filled layer. Zendaya reappeared in a second Valentino golden gown that looked like light itself.

Beyond the Expected

Several attendees took the theme a step further by adding different elements into their attire. There were Dua Lipa, Kendel Jenner, Mona Patel, Natasha Poonawala at the top of the list. Priyanka Chopra wore a custom Dior gown that seemed to  have flowers directly coming from the fabric. The vibrant greens and pinks, paired with a dramatic cape, created a vision of nature reclaiming its space. 

The increasing presence of Indian celebrities at the Met Gala shows the evolution from Western dominated fashion houses. The Met Gala red carpet is now a platform of well known fashion houses to revolve their designs with a global lens and Indian designers to get an international exposure.
