It is the customs and rituals that make a wedding meaningful. Since long, everyone has been following the same old traditional way of getting wedded. The millennials are break away from the traditional and are coming up with novel ways to make their wedding more meaningful. Several newfangled ceremonies have been observed in recent years which are more meaningful than the older ones. The millennials are aware of the changing dynamics of the society and hence are willing to let go of the obsolete rituals and create their own instead. Here Wedding Affair enlists five Western wedding rituals to make your wedding more meaningful, to put in a way.

Unity Sand Ceremony

ritualsUnity sand ceremony ritual is when the bride and the groom fill a vessel with their respective vessels containing sand of different colours. The bride and groom pour the sand into a common vessel which forms a unique pattern. The wedding sand ceremony expresses the coming together of two people or two families into one new family. It is a very simple idea that can be incredibly powerful. Sometimes just the couple participates, and sometimes the couple’s parents join in with their coloured sand, adding to the layers of colours, and expressing the harmony of the entire family.

Letters From Guests

In some modish weddings, guests write letters for the bride and groom so as to wish them a happy life. The letters are later read aloud for everyone to hear. How beautiful it is to hear blessings for the couple when they unite in harmony! This is one of the most fun and beautiful rituals to try out!

Ring Warming Ceremony

Ring warming ceremony is another ritual which has made its way in the wedding scenes. Guests hold the rings for a while so as to bless the bride and the groom. A ring warming is when you give your loved ones the opportunity to hold the couple’s wedding bands with a wish, blessing or prayer for your marriage. A tradition that originated in Ireland, ring warming ceremonies are now practised at weddings all over the world. Simply hold each wedding ring in your hand when it is given to you and warm it up with a wish, prayer, or good thoughts for the couple. Then pass the rings on to the next person!

Planting A Sapling

Some of the couples are opting for eco-friendly ceremonies and rituals at their weddings. A sapling along with a wedding invite has become a popular thing. In some cases, the couple themselves plant a sapling. There’s more than one way to perform a wedding tree planting ceremony. The couple can start with a sapling with a root ball and actually plant it in a container or in the ground. Brides and grooms can also plant the tree symbolically, starting with an already-planted sapling and adding soil to its container.

Writing Own Wedding Vows

Some couples even write their own wedding vows so as to make the rituals more meaningful. Personal vows are in every way more romantic and special. It’s a tremendous undertaking, summing up your love, dreams, and promises to your partner in a few short minutes. Overwhelming as it can be, it’s well worth it: It’s a chance to tell your story, give guests a peek into what makes your relationship tick, and share meaningful words with the person you love.
