Self-care is the new trend in today’s world. Many people preach it yet only some practice it. And honestly, it can be quite overwhelming and taxing.
It is a multifaceted term and is deeper than people give it credit for. It consists of your physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Â And sometimes it can be tough and painful, especially when your day or the week has gone bad and all you want to do is sit and do nothing.
So, here are 11 simple self-care tips that everyone (yes everyone!) can follow-
- Keep yourself hydrated
Drink water! I cannot emphasize this point enough but please drink enough water. Every single time you feel sad or miserable, go and drink a glass of water. People don’t recognize it, but most of the time when you feel sad or frustrated, it’s because you are dehydrated. Think of it as your one good deed of the day and start drinking more water.
- Make your bed
Yes, your mother was right! You should make your bed every day. No matter what time you wake up, do make your bed afterwards. It may seem like a burden but trust me, you’ll feel productive instantly. It will give you a sense of satisfaction.
- Consume one fruit or vegetable every day
Eating healthy is one of the most important parts of your self-care journey. Try including one fruit or vegetable of your choice in your diet. It can be avocado, mango, or just cucumbers but make sure to consume these every day. You can add a small amount of salt and pepper to this and make it even more savory.
- Move for at least 10 minutes daily
Get up from your bed and move. Be it dance, jump, exercise, or just plain walking but make sure to remain in a constant motion for a minimum of 10 minutes. Then slowly and gradually increase this time.
Staying in a stagnant position for a long period can make your body stiff and in the long run, can cause serious health problems. So, make sure to stay in momentum for some time every day.
- Have a proper skincare routine
Having a proper skincare routine and doing it regularly does make you feel better about yourself. It gives you a sense of purpose and responsibility. It can be as simple as basic CTM (cleansing, toning, and moisturizing) and as elaborate as a 12-step skincare regimen. But make sure to follow it religiously. It will make you feel good and your skin will thank you in the future.
- Make a brain dump notebook
In simple words, this journal is specifically to write/dump out all your thoughts on paper. Good, bad, ugly, intelligent, or silly just write out your feelings and thoughts in this journal. Nobody needs to read this, it’s just for your screaming thoughts. Use this journal, especially during the times when you are feeling extra angry or frustrated.
- Take a shower or a bath
Everyone hates taking a shower regularly but it is a great way to improve your mood a bit. Cleaning your body and smelling nice can instantly lift your mood. Maintaining proper hygiene is a great way to embark on a self-care journey.
- Digital detox is a must!
For at least one hour a day, sit with your thoughts. Keep your phone on silent, turn off your social media notifications and just be present in the moment. Water your plants or meditate or simply just go and spend time with your family or pets.
- Gratitude should be the attitude!
I asked you to make a brain dump journal, now make a gratitude journal. Write 5 things in life you are grateful for every day. It can be as small or as big as you like. This will teach you to look at the brighter side of life. You’ll feel a little less miserable or angry after completing this list.
- Compliment yourself
Every day look in the mirror and appreciate one of your attributes. Say it out loud! It can be a simple compliment to your eye shape, it doesn’t matter. But, do it every day. It may sound silly right now but in the long run, it’ll do wonders for your self-esteem.
- Proper rest is must
Do not stay awake till 4 am, binging on the latest Netflix show. Instead, make sleep your priority. Try getting at least 7 hours of sleep daily. Give your body the rest it needs. Do not overwork yourself, it’ll only make you cranky. Take proper rest every day because sometimes, sleep is the best medicine.
You need to remember that your self-care journey is a marathon, not a sprint. It is a constant process that won’t show any results in a month or two, but in the long run, you will see such positive results that you’ll thank yourself.
Remember, you are your best friend so take care of yourself like that!
